The specification

The occasion set rather than the one you strip every week — silk needs a cold, gentle wash, so most people own a cotton set as well and rotate them.

Silk is the one part of the bed that does not go in with the rest of the wash.

Washing the silk

Different rules to the cotton. Washing silk the way you wash a cotton sheet is how a set gets ruined.

  1. Cold, or 30 °C

    Gentle cycle only. Never the 60 °C wash the cotton set takes.

  2. Gentle detergent

    No bleach, no fabric softener, no enzyme-based stain removers.

  3. Hang to dry, out of direct sun

    Don’t tumble dry. Direct sunlight fades silk.

  4. Press on the lowest setting

    Iron on silk or cool, on the reverse, while slightly damp.
