A furniture maker, and his dog

Hooman was started by someone who had spent thirteen years building beds for hotels, and could not find one good enough for the dog asleep at the end of his own.

The story

    An idea is born

    The Hooman story begins with our founder, Christopher Benyayer, who in 2019 was manufacturing furniture for some of the world’s leading hotel brands. Looking after his own dog, Pablo, he set out to use thirteen years of designing and making luxury furniture to build the best dog bed in the world.

    A focus on quality

    From day one the brief was a bed that would out-build most human ones. Not only did it have to be made from 100% human grade materials. It had to look and feel truly human.

  3. Feb 2020

    Fufu is rescued

    Our team found a local street dog, injured and malnourished. We adopted him and named him Fufu. After three months of care he made a full recovery, joined the Hooman family, and went on to shape design decisions right through development.

  4. May 2020

    Our CPT is appointed

    Fufu was promoted to Chief Product Tester, and became the first dog in the world to sleep on a Hooman bed.

  5. Oct 2020

    The giving program

    Fufu’s recovery was the inspiration, but we knew how many more dogs were still suffering. The Hooman Giving Program develops and manufactures a charity bed that is donated to animals in need with every dog bed bought.

  6. May 2021

    Production begins

    With the prototypes tested, the team moved to full-scale production.

  7. Sep 2021

    Thinking global

    Hooman began stocking partner warehouses in the USA, the UK and the Netherlands, so that most of the world’s dog owners could get a bed quickly, and without paying for shipping.

  8. Nov 2021

    Product launch

    Hooman started taking orders and shipping worldwide. From that point on, lucky dogs across the globe could live the Hooman life.
